Tim and Ted
Ted was 12 days old in these photos... we had such a warm March it was great to spend time with him outside, including on our screened-in porch :)
Brielle's Haircut
Last month, we were asking Brielle when she would like to get her hair cut. It was getting long, snarls were getting a little harder to manage, and it needed to be evened up. The other girls in her preschool class had really LONG hair and she liked hers long too. Then, a couple of the girls got their hair cut to just above their shoulders, so Brielle was now ready to get hers cut at some time too, but we didn't talk about exactly WHEN this would happen.
Grandma Carol, who drives Brielle to and from preschool, said to me one day, "Is Brielle getting her hair cut tonight?" I said, "Well not tonight, but sometime..." Grandma Carol said, "Well today she must have told her teacher, because as Brielle was leaving Mrs. Miller said, 'Have a good haircut, Brielle.'"
So as it happened to work out, Aunt Stacy was available that night and we drove over for a haircut!

Swaddle
Ted loved to be swaddled for the first few weeks.
Now we leave his arms out and he sleeps with his arms in the "touchdown" position :)

Like I mentioned before, it's a big highlight for John & Brielle when Ted's eyes are open for awhile :)

Blankets from Clare
As each of our kids have entered this world, our friend Clare has sent a handmade blanket in the mail. We thought it would be fun to take photos of Brielle, John & Ted with their blankets from Clare. It's fun to see how Clare's blankets have changed in the five years that she has been making them :)

Ted's bili checks
Ted was slightly jaundice the day we left the hospital. Brielle watched one of the bilirubin checks where they pricked Ted's heel. The nurse warned Brielle that Ted might cry. Surprisingly, Ted didn't cry at all and Brielle was very proud of that. She has told many people over the last weeks, that "Ted doesn't even cry for shots. He only cries when he gets his diaper changed."
We then had bilirubin checks for each of the 3 days after we left the hospital. Thankfully, the bilirubin number started to come down on its own.

We spent a lot of time by sunny windows to get some extra sunlight:
3 days old at Frentress
When Ted was just 3 days old, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather (record setting warmest March in history!) with a relaxing day at Grandma Carol's & Grandpa Ted's house.
Ted's stroller wheels were dipped in the Mississippi to honor his first day here :)
He enjoyed a nap & some sunshine in his Grandpa Carol's arms.

Baby Ted's name
Ted was born just before 8 am on March 13th. I called my mom to tell her the news, and then she passed the phone to Brielle so that I could tell her. I said "Hi, Brielle! You have a new baby brother. We had a baby boy and his name is Ted... do you know where we got the idea for the name Ted?"
(thinking she would answer something about her Grandpa Ted...)
To answer my question, Brielle said, "Yes! From The Lorax Dr. Seuss Movie!"
We took Brielle & John to the movie "The Lorax" on opening day, which happened to be 11 days before Ted was born. One of the main characters, the little boy pictured above, was named Ted. (The character's name was actually chosen for Dr. Seuss' real name, Theodore Geisel.) Several days later, Brielle was invited to see the movie again with her cousins, Emma, Josie & Karley. So the movie was fresh in her mind, and that's where she thought the name Ted came from!
Now she does know it is because of her Grandpa Ted :)
Ted's first days at home

John and Brielle adapted perfectly to having a new brother at home. Brielle was proud to tell everyone that Ted has the same color hair as her.

In the first few weeks at home, Brielle was always willing and excited to hold her new brother, Ted. She could sit for nearly a half hour, just holding him and watching him. She liked to tell us his every move- like "Mom! He just made his mouth do this!" (and would demonstrate)

Welcome, Baby Ted!
On March 13th, we welcomed the newest addition to our family...
Ted William
9 lbs, 7 oz
22 inches long
This photo is from the day Ted was born. His size surprised us all! And he was born with a lot of strawberry blond hair... just like his big sister, Brielle.

Our first photo as a family of five.
My water broke at home- at 8pm on March 12th. That was a fun surprise, since my due date was March 21st, and with both of my previous pregnancies I was induced past my 40 week due date. We were excited! We called my mom to come watch the kids, finished bedtime stories, cleaned up the kitchen, and packed our things for the hospital.

Ted is named after my dad. Baby Ted's middle name is William, after Tim's grandpa.
We did not announce the name until he was born (and did not know if we were having a girl or boy)... but a friend/neighbor quickly made this hat for him, and he was able to wear it while he was still in the hospital :)
